Manager of ROTHERHAM UNITED, Leam Richardson, is still optimistic that the team may recruit some new players “sooner rather than later” despite the return of two loanees to their parent clubs this week.
Wolves recalled Dexter Lembikisa in the midst of rumours that the Midlands club is thinking about giving the highly-regarded right-back another loan, with other Championship teams reportedly showing interest in signing him.
The Jamaican international, who played 27 times for the Millers in 2023–24, appears to be leading the chase to sign with SPL team Hearts, according to reports released on Friday.
In the meantime, Fred Onyedinma, an offensive midfielder plagued by injuries, has returned to Luton Town after joining Lembikisa on a season-long loan last summer.
Ever since hurting himself during the pregame warm-up at Hull City at the end of November, Onyedinma has not appeared in any games.
Richardson, whose team hosts Stoke City on Saturday, stated that they are “trying hard” to find new additions. Rob (Scott) and the recruiters are working very hard to bring more people into the group.
“To help us with the challenge we have ahead of us, we need bodies and a certain kind of player. Hopefully, in the upcoming days, we can reach some sort of agreement.
“Having a large roster of players and plenty of bodies on the pitch is what a manager or coach want.
Sometimes you have no control over it. It’s decisions for other clubs. We are doing our hardest to draw some conclusions and improve the group’s quality because we are in a race with everyone else.
“I’m just as eager to get things done and get bodies inside the building as they (the fans) are. There have been numerous conversations. Hopefully, we can welcome guests sooner rather than later.
He went on to say, “First and foremost, I want to thank both players for the time and effort they put in with a Rotherham shirt and I thank their parent clubs for allowing them to come across,” in reference to Lembikisa and Onyedinma’s exits.
In order to better him and thrive in his road to whatever direction they believe is best for him, Wolves called Dexter back.
Since being here, he has been an amazing person.
“Fred’s ailments have made things terrible for him.
“He picked up another injury which will see him out for some weeks and after discussions with the player himself – which is the most important – and the club, I think it was the best all around that we freed that loan space up to hopefully add to the squad where people can help us in the here and now rather than in seven or eight weeks time.
