Reece James, Rotherham United’s latest signing, has informed the Official Site that he wants to play in the Championship again.
The 30-year-old defender stated that he was’really keen’ to complete the move, saying, ‘There’s been a little of interest over the last few weeks, but the discussions I’ve had with the manager matched my aspirations, which are to get promoted and back to play in the Championship.
‘When I was here before, it was my first official loan, and I was young, so I had a great relationship with the boss both on and off the pitch. And I wanted to return to that working relationship and maybe make it successful.
Asked what sold Rotherham to him above other clubs that have shown interest in him, Reece said, ‘I’ve been here before, I know what the club’s about, I know it’s ambitions. There’s a good squad here and that’s something I looked at and I want to help get this club back to where it should be.
‘Since I was last here the club has made some really good strides and I think now they want to be a sustainable Championship side. And I think that’s what they are trying to do by bringing in players who can hopefully achieve that.
‘And I’ve grown up quite a bit. I’ve had three promotions from this division and I’ve become a bit more of a rounded player and can play in numerous positions. I want to get better and better and that’s something I’ll be working for and to improve myself on the pitch.
As the league evolves and becomes more competitive, I hope my experience can assist some of the younger players. During difficult times, it’s important to work hard, work together, and fight for the badge on your chest. I’m willing to play wherever the manager requires.
