Steve Evans quickly makes his mark following Rotherham United return

It will be there for all to see at a place he knows well at the AESSEAL New York Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Evans has wasted no time in getting busy with the home and away dug-outs having done a swap.

From now on, the home dug-out will be on the left as opposed to the right of the main stand, just as it was in his first spell in charge.

It has been done with a clear aim, as is customary with the astute Scot.

Evans, who never misses an opportunity, predicted a highly emotional reunion day. That’s one of the reasons I requested that we return to the bench close to the home end from the chairman and vice-chairman Richard Stewart.

“You desire a relationship with the supporters. They are wonderful. Because of their backing, we have won so many games during my first stint here, including numerous late goals.

Evans’ boss, who has been in contact with him since his initial departure from the position slightly over eight and a half years ago, will be back in the stands, grinning. He has been rejuvenated by the return of someone he knows well, rates, and trusts.

Speaking on Friday afternoon, an animated Stewart declared his belief that Rotherham has their “mojo back” because of the Glaswegian’s return, and the chairman has most definitely done so after acknowledging that the Millers’ struggles in 2023–24 had severely depressed him.

“I just think we’ve lost that,” Stewart said, referring to the reputation that Rotherham had before he came of age as a team that worked hard, gave their all, and performed. Similar to the supporters, I was

“Now that I know Steve and Paul are “showbiz” both on and off the pitch and understand what it takes to succeed in football, I know we have a lot to look forward to.

“We seem to have regained our mojo; I believe we had lost our motivation, ardour, and desire.

We’ve stayed pals ever since Steve first moved out. Due to a technicality, we parted ways as friends. However, Paul and Steve have always been prosperous, and I have always respected him. I’ve gone to dinners and attended the weddings of his family.”
