Rotherham United Goalie Viktor Johansson told iFollow that he believed the club had “real character” on Friday night to overcome a deficit and draw with Leeds United.
The Swedish custodian stated, “We stayed in the game long enough, knew we would get a chance and took it,” following the visitors’ early goal at New York Stadium.
In the second half, we played much better and had more opportunities to score. It was quite enjoyable.
‘We tweaked a few things at half-time and I think it showed on the pitch. We ran all over the pitch and the lads in front of me are great lads and have been incredible at home all season.’
Asked about why the Millers can’t produce this performance away from home, Viktor said, ‘It’s the ten million pound question. It’s really tough and I think it’s a mental thing because we know we’re a good team and we have confidence but we need to take that confidence with us away from home.
We’re a close-knit team that supports one another. We watch out for one another, and the changing room is free of nasty eggs. Supporting is what you do when you’re not playing, and that matters a lot. We all work together as a big family, including the players, staff, and amazing fans that have shown up tonight.
Viktor joined the Millers in 2020 and has made one hundred and fifteen appearances as Rotherham’s number one which includes a Papa John’s Trophy medal from an appearance at Wembley and has said on numerous occasions he ‘loves it at Rotherham’. There have been many remarks from Millers fans saying ‘he won’t be here in January’ but again, after Friday night, the twenty-five year old said, ‘everyone knows I’m happy here. It’s been a wonderful time and I’ll keep going. I really like it here.’
