Boy 18 and 20, arrested as knife found after crash involving stolen’car used in robbery’

A car ‘used in a heist’ collided with parked cars on an Oldham street, leading to the arrest of two youngsters.

The collision occurred at approximately 11.40 a.m. this morning, on Hollins Road, at the intersection with Frederick Street. Following reports of a collision involving a car and “several stationary cars,” emergency personnel rushed to the area.

As forensic investigators searched the area for evidence, a cordon was established and the road was blocked off in both directions. Among the wreckage from the collision, a knife was visible on the road.

Police said the car, which was left badly smashed and damaged after the crash, was believed to have been involved in a robbery on Rochdale Road in Royton earlier today. The two boys – aged 15 and 16 – were arrested ‘swiftly’ after the incident. Both were arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of an offensive weapon, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said. Residents on the scene assisted officers, police said, and no members of the public were injured.

“We were called to Hollins Road in Oldham at 11:39 a.m. this morning to reports of a road traffic collision where a car collided with several stationary cars,” the police said in a statement. Fortunately, nobody in the public was hurt.

“Earlier today, the vehicle is thought to have been a part of a robbery on Rochdale Road in Royton. When emergency personnel arrived, we were able to quickly identify two teenage lads, ages 15 and 16, who were taken into custody on suspicion of robbery and possessing an offensive weapon because of information provided by bystanders at the scene.
