Following a collision between a car and a motorbike today, a police cordon was erected across a section of High Barn Street for the remainder of the morning and into the afternoon. All emergency services, including an air ambulance, were dispatched to the scene. The road was closed between Edge Lane Street and Milton Street and Oldham Road.
The crash scene was covered by a screen, but it was later taken down to show a motorbike on its side and other pieces of debris strewn all over the road.
“We received a report of a road traffic collision involving a motorbike and a car on High Barn Street in Royton,” a Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.
“A Chadderton fire engine and a Leigh technical response unit were dispatched to the scene, where firefighters collaborated with Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service colleagues.”
The deputy leader of Oldham Council and ward councillor, Cllr Amanda Chadderton, tweeted: “There has been a serious accident near the centre of Royton. Emergency services are all on site and asking people to avoid the area.”
“Considering the individuals impacted by this and their loved ones.”
As the emergency services began to disperse, a lone police officer remained at the crash scene, taking pictures and making observations.
A group of bystanders, some of whom were in tears, gathered outside The Railway pub on the edge of the police cordon.
High Barn Street was still closed at the time of writing, and it was unknown how the individuals involved in the collision fared.
