The family of a grandad tragically killed in a motorbike crash in Cannock have praised him as “one of the world’s truly good guys”. Dave Whiting was out riding a bike when he collided with a car near Beau Desert Golf Club, based in Rugeley Road, at around 6.40pm on Friday, August 16.

Despite the efforts of emergency services, the 70-year-old grandad was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The keen biker, from Cannock, was described by family as being “kind” and “patient

Staffordshire Police said the driver of the car stopped at the scene and was helping officers investigating the crash. The force said on the weekend that a “full and detailed investigation” was underway.

Specialist officers were supporting Mr Whiting’s loved ones. In a joint statement, his family said: “Dave was a loving husband, dad, grandad and friend. One of the world’s truly good guys.

“His family and friends are in shock over his passing; he was always patient, kind, and loving. After 50 years of arduous work, Dave resigned from the brick and tile sector in 2019.

“His family and friends and his little mate Milo the dog were the most important thing in the world to him; all things bikes coming a close second.”

A Staffordshire Police spokesperson said: “Our thoughts remain with Dave’s family at this difficult time and we ask that their privacy is respected as they continue to be supported by specially-trained officers. An investigation to establish the cause of the collision is ongoing and anyone who may have seen it, or those with dashcam footage, can email ciu@staffordshire.police.uk or call 101 quoting incident number 633 of August 25.”
