A plan to replace three Sheffield GP practices with a £9.4 million hub will result in their closure.
The Healthcare Surgery on Palgrave Road in Southey Green, Buchanan Road Surgery in Parson Cross, and Margetson Surgery on Remington Avenue in Parson Cross are the locations that are scheduled to close.
According to a report presented to the Finance Committee of the municipal council, the project is deemed “transformational” as it provides patients with an expanded array of services all under one roof.
With funding from NHS England, the City Council would construct the new hub and take on the role of landlord, renting the space to general practitioners for a 60-year term.
The ideas are a part of a larger initiative to alter Sheffield’s health care delivery system.
In total the cost was £37m and included the closure of the existing Burgreave Surgery and the Sheffield Medical Centre, with services being relocated to new premises on Street.
Elsewhere, two other surgeries on Mulberry Street would be replaced by a city centre GP surgery in the old Royal Bank of Scotland building on Church Street.
The finance committee approved the Parson Cross and Southey portion of the renovations first, and the new Wordsworth Avenue complex was scheduled to open in 2025.
The new structure would “address the challenges of the growing population that was estimated to rise from 12,265 to 13,332 by 2041 for The Healthcare Surgery and Buchannan Road Surgery,” according to a paper presented to the committee.
