Following Chris Wilder’s admission of a “ridiculous” transfer deal, Sheffield United is playing poker in the transfer market.
As Sheffield United waits for their first January arrival to Bramall Lane, Chris Wilder has compared the team’s search for new players this season to “a game of poker.” In order to revitalise their promotion campaign in the next 20 games of the season, the Blades are in dire need of new players.
This transfer window, Wilder’s wants list also includes Hamza Choudhury, and Ben Brereton Diaz is also a priority target as the Blades try to negotiate his release from struggling Southampton. In the days leading up to last night’s FA Cup match against Cardiff, the Blades manager stated on Wednesday that United was “not a million miles off” joining their team.
“We’ve been talking the last 48 hours continuously, working and trying to progress deals through,” Wilder said after his much-changed team lost 1-0 in front of just over 6,000 spectators at Bramall Lane, eliminating them from the competition.
I’ve discussed selling clubs or loaned players because they want the greatest price and are also waiting for better offers. It’s definitely that kind of circumstance, but we’ve made progress, so hopefully, in the four or five days before the Norwich game, we’ll see some improvement.
“You’d think it absurd if I told you about one of the agreements, but you’ll have to wait. At times, it resembles a game of poker. The most important thing, though, is that we have guys that want to come here. Additionally, our owners and chief executive officer are putting in a lot of effort to attempt to recruit players, which is sufficient in my opinion.”
