Iliman Ndiaye linked with sensational Sheffield United return amid Marseille struggle
Chris Wilder declined to comment on speculation linking Iliman Ndiaye with a spectacular January homecoming to Sheffield United, following speculation that the Senegal international could depart Marseille in the new year. Since returning to his home France in the summer, Ndiaye has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter.
According to The Sun, United, along with Everton and Crystal Palace, could look to offer Ndiaye a route back to English football if that happens – a prospect that has excited some fans while putting others off who are still stinging from the player’s 11th-hour contract U-turn that led to his summer departure.
After returning to a hero’s welcome to his boyhood club, Ndiaye took 10 games to score his first goal for Les Olympiens – which remains his only goal in their colours so far. It has not been a move that has worked out so far, with the United link an obvious one in terms of the player returning to an environment he knows well.
When asked about the Ndiaye saga before of Friday night’s trip to Aston Villa, manager Wilder replied, “I’m not prepared to talk about anyone; I’m focusing on the group we have.” Everyone remembers his past here, including me, because he was a young player at the time and trained with the squad all season.
“From afar, I saw the impact he had on the team during his breakout season.” He’s a fantastic player, an exceptional player. But I don’t want to become embroiled in speculative thinking.
