This is in line with a report from Alan Nixon, The Sun’s transfer guru, who claims that Wilder has selected the Wales defender to increase his team’s alternatives in the battle to avoid the prospect of relegation.
Chris Mepham is a player who has been frequently linked to a move to Leeds United thus far in the January transfer window. However, Sheffield United, led by Chris Wilder, now poses competition for the Whites.
Mepham, 26, has struggled for game time at Bournemouth alongside Luis Sinisterra and Tyler Adams, under boss Andoni Iraola. The Bournemouth players David Brooks and Kieffer Moore are also targets for Leeds.
Leeds is planning to accelerate their efforts to sign Mepham and Connor Roberts in the wake of Djed Spence and Luke Ayling’s departures from the team this month.
But Mepham, a £12 million player who has played fewer than 200 minutes in England’s top division, might now be tempted by the allure of Premier League football. Mepham might be persuaded to join the increasing number of players representing Wales.
Leeds currently field Dan James, Ethan Ampadu, and Joe Rodon, the latter of whom Mepham greatly admires and who plays centre back for Wales under Rob Page. Prior to a Euro 2024 campaign, he will want playing time.
It will be tough to refuse Mepham, though, if he can be guaranteed a starting position for the Blades in the top division. According to the article, Wilder might even relocate permanently, which would entice Bournemouth.
One to watch as the window closes and we move into the second part of the month. Meanwhile, Leeds will have another week off before hosting Preston at Elland Road on Sunday. We lost the rematch between the two teams.
