Eleventh and ‘significant’ arrest made in connection to fatal Sheffield shooting of father-of-two

“A number of people were directly involved in the events leading up to Kevin’s death and bear responsibility,” police say after a “significant” arrest has been made.

On December 12, 2023, Kevin Pokuta was shot on Page Hall Road, Sheffield.

The father-of-two was taken to hospital, but died the following day (Dec 13).

Since his death police have made ten separate arrests, but on Friday (Feb 23) an eleventh arrest was made.

A 22-year-old man was taken into custody on Friday just before 3:30 p.m. on suspicion of murder, attempted murder, robbery conspiracy, and firearm possession with the intent to endanger life. He’s still being held by the cops.

In relation to Kevin’s murder, Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Andrea Bowell deemed the most recent arrest “significant.”

“Several people were directly involved in the events leading up to Kevin’s death and bear responsibility,” stated DCI Bowell.

Police said, “We are anticipating further arrests. Previously, six men have been arrested on suspicion of murder and four women on suspicion of assisting an offender.” She clarified that all eleven of the individuals are still being held on police bail and that they believe the 22-year-old’s arrest will “bring further evidence and ensure justice is served for Kevin and his family.” Despite the late hour of the night, they believe that someone fired the gun, which caused Kevin’s fatal injuries. They suspect they now know the identity of that person and will continue to build a case to prove or disprove that.

“This investigation is complex, and remains ongoing. We urge anyone, with even the smallest piece of information to come forward – it could make a real difference to the investigation.”

Anyone with information can contact police and quote the incident number 19 of 12 December 2023.
