Kyle Walker, a defender for Manchester City, has been linked to rejoining his childhood team.
Kyle Walker, the defender for Manchester City, has previously expressed his thoughts about rejoining Sheffield United in the wake of rumours that the Championship team may make a move.
Before joining Tottenham Hotspur in 2009 and City in 2017, the 34-year-old started his senior career at Bramall Lane. With more than 300 matches under his belt, he has now won six Premier League crowns, two FA Cups, four League Cups, and the Champions League for Pep Guardiola’s team.
This season, however, he’s among those struggling for form at City who are currently on a seven game run without a win. After Sunday’s 2-0 defeat away at Liverpool, they are now 11 points behind the league leaders after 13 games
Sheffield United, Walker’s boyhood team, is reportedly interested in re-signing the right back, 15 years after he first left the team, according to a report from talkSPORT this week. Walker is reportedly one of several players the team may decide to let go of at the end of the current campaign.
The article acknowledges that teams like Saudi Arabia and the MLS would probably show interest, but given that the Blades are presently leading the Championship, a return to Bramall Lane may be imminent. It’s also important to note that Walker has continuously stated his intention to complete his career in the place where it all started.
“I don’t want to drop down too low because, no disrespect, but I feel the lower it gets, I think it gets harder,” he stated in a March interview with Rio Ferdianand’s FIVE podcast. Facilities, food, this, that, and other things are among the luxuries that come with living in the city. However, I would prefer to end at Sheffield United. In fact, that is something I would like to do.
“I was there from a very young age until I left for Tottenham, and I only played five [league] games before leaving, after which I returned on loan for six months.” In order to give back to or even impart my expertise to the younger players who are emerging or who are present at that time, I would like to continue playing for as long as feasible. I believe I have about 35 games left. Yes, I would like to do that if I am able to.
Walker has previously mentioned Sheffield United as a team he would like to join, having stated earlier this season that he would like to return. In an interview with his own BBC podcast
“Kyle Walker is unbeatable.” “That would be the icing on the cake for me [finishing his career at Sheffield United],” he added in September. Even if I didn’t play, I wouldn’t mind. with the sole purpose of helping others, sharing my knowledge, and playing the games I did.
“Of course I would like to put on the shirt one and run out onto the pitch.”
