is promoted next season, Chelsea player Alfie Gilchrist has made it clear that he would be willing to stay there. With the player not getting as much playing time with the Blues as he would have liked, Gilchrist also stated in an interview with the Daily Mail that he was interested in joining the Blades as soon as he learned of their interest. Gilchrist was given a chance to shine by Mauricio Pochettino last season and he featured in a number of games, making 11 league appearances during the 2023/24 campaign.
However, it was unclear how much game time he was going to get under Enzo Maresca this term, and the Blues sanctioned a temporary move away from Stamford Bridge for the young defender.
The Blades prevailed in the competition to recruit him, and they have benefited from having the 20-year-old available to them. He has performed well in the early going of this season and helped the Blades climb up the Championship table by frequently starting as a right-back with players like Anel Ahmedhodzic and Harry Souttar. They began the season with two points at the bottom of the league, but they haven’t allowed that to get to them. They have won a lot of games to establish themselves as automatic promotion contenders, including a victory over Preston North End on the first day of the season.
