Mason Holgate’s proposed loan move to Sheffield United has fallen through, following a disappointing spell at Southampton this season.
Everton’s insistence on a loan fee has caused Mason Holgate’s planned transfer to Sheffield United to fall through.
Chris Wilder, the manager of United, views Holgate as a possible addition to help prevent relegation, despite the player’s lack of playing time at Southampton.
Holgate needs a move where he can play frequently in order to resume his career, which has stagnated in recent years.

The defender struggled to secure a spot in the team under manager Russell Martin after joining Southampton on loan from the Toffees in the summer. He can play midfield, centre back, and right back, but at St Mary’s, he hasn’t had much playing time.
In spite of Holgate’s paucity of games, the Saints are winning the Championship this year. With a victory over Swansea City today, they could finish the weekend in second place in the Championship standings, where they are now ranked third.

According to a report by Nick Mashiter on X, the obstacle in completing the Holgate deal was Everton’s demand for a loan fee. The move, which was cancelled at the last minute at the insistence of the Toffees, had the defender travelling to Bramall Lane to finish a medical.
