Blades battle overpower Blackburn Rovers, Burnley for striker reunion deal

Reporter Alan Nixon claims that Sheffield United has joined Burnley and Blackburn Rovers in their pursuit of Oli McBurnie, a striker for UD Las Palmas.
Burnley, Blackburn Rovers, and Sheffield United are all in a strong position to advance from the Championship, and bolstering their individual bids will depend on the January transfer window.

Rovers will undoubtedly be fighting against the odds to keep their spot in the play-offs, while the Blades and the Clarets will be fighting for an automatic promotion spot.

All three teams will need winter additions, and it was recently reported that the Lancashire duo was one of the English teams that admired striker Oli McBurnie. The Scot has been linked to a return to these shores, although he joined La Liga team UD Las Palmas in the summer.

According to a recent story by reporter Alan Nixon, Sheffield United, a previous team, is also interested.

Nixon writes on his Patreon that Blades manager Chris Wilder is considering a loan agreement to bring McBurnie back to Bramall Lane, and that they have the money to do so after their takeover.

Burnley and Blackburn Rovers’ involvement appears to have placed the Blades on high alert.

McBurnie’s Spanish adventure

The move from Sheffield United to Las Palmas for McBurnie was one that caught the attention of many in the summer but unfortunately, the striker hasn’t found the form to nail down a starting berth.

He was a regular early on and provided two assists in his first three La Liga games but has only set up one more goal since without finding the back of the net in the league.

The former Swansea City youngster’s only two goals have come in Copa Del Rey against CE Europa.

McBurnie has not started any league game since October 5th.

Back to Bramall Lane?

Sheffield United had McBurnie on the books for five years from 2019 to 2024, joining after his successful stint at Swansea City.

He managed 29 goals and seven assists in 159 games for the Blades, sometimes struggling for form but ultimately coming good. While he may not have quite justified his big price tag, he proved to be a hard-working and physical presence at the top of the pitch.

At Championship level, he’ll be a great player to have back on the books for the second half of the season.
