Blades man makes AFCON history’

Sheffield United midfielder  suffered a setback while playing for  against Namibia at the AFCON on Tuesday. The 22-year-old, who joined United in the summer, has struggled as manager Paul Heckingbottom has rarely selected him. His problems have mirrored those of several other summer recruits who have struggled to make a meaningful impression on the Blades.

Despite a recent increase in opportunities and strong performances under Chris Wilder, Anis Slimane’s fortunes took a turn for the worst as he donned the prized number ten shirt for Tunisia against Namibia in the AFCON.

Slimane had an unfortunate turn of events as  earned a historic late 1-0 victory, their first in the tournament. Tunisia’s lofty international ranking of 28th was expected to crush Namibia, which is placed 115th globally, but they may have just been caught off guard by the competition’s unexpected outcome.

According to SofaScore, the midfielder was Tunisia’s greatest player on the day, with a 100% dribbling success rate (three), 67% total duels won, and a vital pass. Slimane’s next match is on Saturday against Mali, who presently leads Group E on goal difference.

From Sheffield United’s perspective, it’s encouraging to see the 22-year-old involved and performing well for his country. The Blades are short on game changers off the bench, and he possesses all the proper traits to be a vital impact substitute in the second half of the campaign.
