Chris Wilder addresses Blades chances of signing Premier League loan star in January

Chris Wilder, the manager of Sheffield United, does not believe that winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi will be called up during the January transfer window.
This season, Sheffield United made a statement by signing Jesurun Rak-Sakyi on loan.

Most of the Championship tried to sign the 22-year-old, but the Blades pulled off a massive coup by bringing the much sought-after young player in.

Two seasons ago, Rak-Sakyi had a great run with Charlton Athletic in League One. Despite playing 49 games and scoring 15 goals, he was not permitted to go on loan the next season.

He made eight appearances during the previous season, so it was not surprising that the door opened for him to go in the summer, even if his parent club, Crystal Palace, chose to keep him on board.

Although Rak-Sakyi has taken some time to get used to his surroundings, the youthful winger appears to be settling in as he secures a position on Sheffield United’s right. Because of this, there has been conjecture that he might be called up in the winter.

Chris Wilder, the manager of the Blades, does not see that occurring, though When The Star questioned the Sheffield United manager about whether he believes Rak-Sakyi’s loan will expire in January, he responded succinctly, saying

Inevitable loan worries

There’s always a concern with loan players being recalled and with Sheffield United having a few players on the books temporarily, there will be some who there are concerns about.

Australian defender Harry Souttar has locked down a starting berth since joining on loan from Leicester City, where he has had limited opportunities since signing from Stoke City.

His parent club are the only promoted side to pick up a win this season but they are still in a relegation fight. That could prompt some January transfer action.

All it could take is a couple injuries at the back for the Foxes and they may be considering recalling the big Aussie, though his lack of game time at the King Power to date should have the Blades confident of keeping him for the full campaign too.

Looking ahead

A big week lays ahead for Sheffield United. After a bit of a dip in form after a great start, they’ll be out to get back to their best before the next international break.

They have a challenging three games across this week though. This weekend’s opponents Blackburn Rovers have started this season strongly and will provide the Blades with a good test at Ewood Park before a trip to Bristol City.

When Sheffield Wednesday visits Bramall Lane the following Sunday, the Steel City derby will resume. After a protracted absence of the derby match, both teams must win that match.
