Exclusive: Sheffield United interested in two key players for January move

Leeds United striker Joel Piroe has dropped a subtle hint that he might have turned down a move to Sheffield United in the summer.

Piroe signed for Leeds for around £10m and has since been crucial in Daniel Farke’s side as they’ve climbed into the promotion picture.

Naturally, the Blades had Piroe on their radar during the summer while United was looking for a new striker. Before Paul Heckingbottom finally completed a deal for Cameron Archer, Chuba Akpom was also mentioned.

Additionally, Piroe hinted in an interview with ESPN that he preferred a transfer to Elland Road over teams like United.

There were several choices. A better team in the Championship or a lower-tier team in the Premier League had to be chosen. I gave it some thought and ultimately decided that I wanted to attend Leeds United,” Piroe remarked.

At Bramall Lane, Piroe would have been fantastic.
Although the majority of Blades were happy to see Cameron Archer join, Joel Piroe would have fulfilled many of our offensive needs and we definitely needed more attack.

The striker has a nice knack for scoring goals, as we’ve seen at Leeds this season (he has nine already), but more importantly, he links the play well so that Leeds’ other flair players can excel.

Given that, it’s simple to picture Piroe as the centre of attention, with players like Archer and McAtee vying for his attention.

Everyone knows that during the summer, United lost out on a lot of players. You can’t help but feel that the budget would have been better used on Piroe or a player of a similar calibre given that we signed players who have looked miles off it like Luke Thomas, Yasser Larouci, and Benie Traore.
