Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson ha admitted there is some frustration hanging in the air at London Road, over the expected but delayed transfer of Sheffield United target Harrison Burrows.
The highly-rated left back has been the subject of interest from the Championship and League One Birmingham City but it is understood that Sheffield United and Posh have agreed on a fee for the 22-year-old.
Preston boss Ryan Lowe admitted this week that his club were outbid in their quest to sign Burrows, and there have been reports of complaints from Championship clubs over the apparent influence of prospective new owners of United in transfer dealings.
The Star understands that, as has been continually reported, it is likely that the takever involving a US-based consortium will have to go through before Burrows is brought to Bramall Lane.
The Star later confirmed that United was still very much interested in signing Burrows, despite reports from Cambridgeshire over the weekend that the deal was “dead.” Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony eventually emailed the Peterborough Telegraph to confirm, saying, “No club this summer, that we have agreed a deal with, has pulled out of any deal for any player.”
Burrows was left off of Peterborough’s squad for their preseason friendly against Spalding earlier this week. However, manager Ferguson says the player will be back in the lineup for Saturday’s match against West Brom to make sure he stays sharp in case any deals fall through and to reduce the chance of injury.
Ferguson told the Peterborough Telegraph, “For him and me, the situation with Harrison is frustrating.” He’s a great asset to the team, so we’re trying to keep him safe. He was hoping to play at Spalding, but I thought the risk would be too great. If nothing else occurs, he will play on Saturday because he needs to build up his work, which isn’t occurring right now.
St George’s Park will be closed for Peterborough’s game versus West Brom.
