Millwall has announced a significant development just before their Championship match against Sheffield United, confirming the departure of manager This announcement came earlier today, indicating that Harris will leave the club following this weekend’s match against Middlesbrough, making tomorrow’s fixture his final one at The Den.
Harris returned to Millwall in February and successfully ensured the club’s place in the Championship. Chairman James Berylson remarked, “At the beginning of 2024, we found ourselves in a challenging situation. Neil stepped in and, along with his coaching team, revitalized the squad. Through his leadership and decisive actions, he guided Millwall on an impressive run, securing our position in the Championship for this season.”
“I would like to express my gratitude to Neil for his contributions since his return to the club, and we will always appreciate his efforts. After recent discussions, Neil felt it was the appropriate time to resign from his position after the Middlesbrough match, and I have respected his choice. I, along with everyone connected to Millwall, wish Neil all the best in his future endeavors.”
“He will always be welcomed back to The Den as a friend, colleague, and Lion. As we move forward, the selection of our next head coach will be in line with the clear strategy and vision I have previously outlined for the future of Millwall Football Club, both on and off the field.”
Director of football Steve Gallen added, “We honor Neil’s decision, and he leaves with the best wishes of everyone at the club. Since my arrival in May, I have appreciated working with Neil, and I thank him for his dedication during this time.”
Blades manager Chris Wilder expressed his respect for Harris during his press conference this morning, shortly before the announcement of Harris’s departure from the club, where he had previously played and served as the U21 coach before taking on a managerial role.
When asked about his experiences at The Den, Wilder remarked, “I genuinely enjoy it, as it aligns with my personality. I have encountered similar environments throughout my career, where one must be prepared for the challenges ahead. Neil is an exceptional individual and a highly competent football manager. Their position near the top of the Championship, competing against formidable opponents, reflects the dedication and unity present within that football club.”
