The Blades are fishing in the market for new players after Chris Wilder admitted he needed to add some players to the squad in January. Wilder has admitted those players need to go straight into the first XI, rather than make up the squad.
And in one of the most bizarre links you’ll read to close out 2023, the Blades are being credited with an interest in legendary Liverpool forward, Roberto Firmino
According to CaughtOffside, who relayed information from TalkSPORT, United were interested in Firmino before Wilder was granted a second chance.
Firmino, of course, chose to join Saudi club Al-Ahli in the summer, where he makes a massive £326k per week.
Roberto Firmino to Sheffield United would be quite the story
But it’s not going to happen, is it? Let’s be serious about that!
Sure, we can hold an interest in signing him and his apparent desire to get out of Saudi Arabia might mean there’s teams in England who fancy getting him on the books.
Sheffield United, on the other hand, will not be that team. For starters, Firmino is owed a large sum of money that we will not pay.
Second, he’ll attract interest from all over the world, and with his talent, he’ll be able to walk into most Premier League and European teams.
The month of January is commonly referred to as “silly season.” And, in terms of rumours, this is as crazy as they’ve been for a long time when it comes to United.
Still, what a story it would be if the Blades were able to sign a player like Bobby Firmino.
