Sheffield United Accept To Sign £850K Championship Ace This Summer

Luke Ayling, a defender on loan from Middlesbrough, is being closely watched by Sheffield United since his contract with Leeds United expires at the end of the current campaign.
The fullback has been at Elland Road since joining the club from Bristol City back in 2016. However, this season, the 32-year-old became a mere squad player under head coach Daniel Farke and eventually moved to the Riverside Stadium on a short-term loan spell.

Since joining Boro, the experienced defender has made 17 appearances in the Championship and has played a major role in helping to get Michael Carrick’s side back on track and in contention for the play-offs, even if their surge in form came a few weeks too late.

Ayling’s contract with Leeds United expires in two games, meaning his future could be in jeopardy if the Teesside team doesn’t place in the top six before the end of the regular season in early May.

Clubs are, however, already monitoring his circumstances with the Whites. Sheffield United, a Premier League team in danger of relegation, is reportedly hoping to recruit Ayling on a free agent after his current contract expires, according to a report by Alan Nixon on his private Patreon.

According to Nixon, Ayling is viewed as a crucial acquisition for the Blades, who will probably play in the Championship the following season after finishing with just 16 points from 33 games in the top division this year. He claims to be worth £850,000 on the market.
