Timothy Ouma, a midfielder for IF Elfsborg, will be acquired by Slavia Prague ahead of St Etienne.
Alan Nixon claims that the Czech team has defeated a number of Premier League and Championship teams in order to recruit him.
Ouma has played frequently for his team over the past year or two, and earlier this month, Aftonbladet reported that Luton Town and Sheffield United were both interested in a move for him.
He gained great experience at a relatively early age by making 23 appearances in the Swedish top flight during the 2024 season and also playing in the Europa League.
And although a move for the player now appears inevitable, it doesn’t appear that he will secure a switch to either Kenilworth Road or Bramall Lane. According to Nixon, Ouma is expected to sign with Slavia Prague in a deal worth up to £3.5 million. They fought with a number of teams, including teams from the first and second tiers of English football, with Luton and the Blades previously in the running for his signature. However, they ultimately had to outbid French team St-Etienne, and they were successful, with the 20-year-old set to move to the Czech Republic.
United struggled with a lack of central midfielders at their disposal on Friday and that arguably led to their home defeat against Hull City.
Ouma could have made a short-term impact, and considering his age, he would only have improved.
They may not be too gutted about missing out on the 20-year-old if Hamza Choudhury, who is closing in on a move to South Yorkshire, proves to be a success during the second half of this season.
Luton, meanwhile, could have benefitted from having an extra spark in their team like Ouma, as they look to avoid the drop.
They arguably need to improve at both ends of the pitch first though, so he may not have been a key signing for them.
Still, he could have been a shrewd addition in Bedfordshire, and could have been sold on for a handsome profit in the future.
