Sheffield United dealt transfer blow in pursuit of 27-year-old star

The Star reports that Sheffield United has conceded defeat in their attempt to sign Hertha Berlin defender Jonjoe Kenny.
The right-back and Sheffield United have been unable to come to an agreement. Between now and the end of the January transfer window, SUFC will need to focus on other objectives.
As of right now, Kenny, 27, is scheduled to become a free agent when his contract expires in the summer. This season, he has made 21 appearances in all competitions, 18 of which have been in the Bundesliga.2, and he has contributed six assists and one goal.

According to The Star’s most recent report on his circumstances this winter, the Blades have been “thwarted” in their efforts to acquire him and will now start to look at alternative options ahead of the deadline on Monday. The player’s future is now up in the air over in Germany.

Sheffield United have identified Kenny as someone to boost their defensive ranks.

The player has outlined his aim to return to England recently and has said, as per The Star: “Yes, it is true that Sheffield want to sign me immediately, and I want to take this step as well.

“I truly love Hertha BSC and owe the club a great deal. It was exactly the right move for me at the time, and from day one, I have always given 100 per cent for the success of the club, and I still do.

“Over the past few years, my girlfriend and I have become parents, and many things have changed for us off the pitch. I really want to take this opportunity for my family now and return to our home country together.”

Kenny rose up through the academy at Everton and went on to play 68 matches for their first-team.

He was also loaned out by the Toffees to Wigan Athletic, Oxford United, Schalke and Celtic to boost his development.

The ex-England youth international was snapped up by Hertha Berlin in 2022 and has been a key player for them over the last two-and-a-half campaigns.

They were relegated in his first year from the Bundesliga and are currently aiming to get back to the top flight.

What now for Sheffield United target Jonjoe Kenny?
Kenny is in limbo with it looking like his current club are playing hardball.

Sheffield United will be eyeing other players as they hunt for more additions.
