Ipswich Town are gearing up for their first year back in the Premier League following their promotion last season.
Sheffield United meanwhile are preparing for another year in the Championship after they suffered relegation from the top flight last time out.
In terms of their current goals, both clubs are extremely similar yet very different from one another. Ipswich Town has been rising for a number of years, whereas the Blades have had difficulty maintaining any kind of year-to-year stability.
But this summer, they’re both going after the same man. Lawrence, 30, participated in 32 games for the Rangers in all competitions the previous season. During the 2023–24 season, the adaptable winger assisted three goals and scored three.
This morning, June 10, The Scottish Daily Mail reported in print that Sheffield United and Ipswich Town are both considering summer moves for the attacker. Besiktas joins them both, keeping an eye on the situation as well.
A tough one for the Blades
It might be difficult to lure Lawrence to Bramall Lane this summer. Premier League football is available at Ipswich Town, while Besiktas once more provides the opportunity to play in Turkey’s top division, as well as in Europe and with former Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
Chris Wilder has the experience necessary to propel a team to the top division and maintain it there. His recent performance history, nevertheless, indicates that his strategies might not be as effective today.
Although he was never going to be able to keep Sheffield United up this season, it doesn’t seem like it will be easy going because of his employment at Watford and Middlesbrough following his initial stint with the Blades.
In his 82 games as a manager, he has only won 24 of them. This season, he will be looking to start strong, but a successful transfer window will be crucial.
They are currently unable to move forward due to takeover talk, and as the season draws nearer, it would be ideal if this issue could be settled quickly.
Top flight quality?
Lawrence, 30, has never really stood out in a high-level flight during his career.
Sheffield United might be the greatest option for him because he has had some of his best seasons in the Championship.
There are many doubts about his ability to perform at the highest level for Kieran McKenna, and the adaptable striker will undoubtedly want to play football on a regular basis.
Since 2013–14, Lawrence has played in 269 Championship games, totaling 50 goals and 40 assists. He didn’t have the finest experience with the Rangers, but if he can return to his previous level of play, he might be a useful addition for the Blades this summer.
