We’re a few days away from January but we could already have the most outlandish link possible when it comes to Sheffield United.
The Blades are fishing in the market for new players after Chris Wilder admitted he needed to add some players to the squad in January. Wilder has admitted those players need to go straight into the first XI, rather than make up the squad.
And in one of the most bizarre links you’ll read to close out 2023, the Blades are being credited with an interest in legendary Liverpool forward, Roberto Firmino.
According to CaughtOffside, who relay information from TalkSPORT, United held an interest in Firmino before Wilder was given a second stab at the job.
Of course, Firmino opted to sign for Saudi side Al-Ahli in the summer where he earns a whopping £326k-a-week in wages.
Roberto Firmino to Sheffield United would be quite the story
But it’s not going to happen, is it? Let’s be serious about that!
Sure, we can hold an interest in signing him and his apparent desire to get out of Saudi Arabia might mean there’s teams in England who fancy getting him on the books.
But Sheffield United surely won’t be that team. For a start, Firmino is on huge money that we just won’t pay.
Secondly, he’s going to have interest from across the world and give his talent, could probably walk into most teams in the Premier League and around Europe.
The January window is often referred to as silly season. And in terms of rumours, this is as outrageous as they’ve been when it comes to United for some time.
Still, if the Blades did somehow manage to land a player like Bobby Firmino, then what a story.
