Sheffield United star transfers to Champions League club

A former Blackpool defender will embark on a European adventure this summer.
Harrison McGahey, a former Blackpool defender, has joined Welsh champions The New Saints.

After stints with Blackburn Rovers and Liverpool, McGahey 2013–14 for a team that finished 20th in the EFL Championship, playing for Rangers great Barry Ferguson.
After making his professional debut, the six-foot-two center-back decided against signing a new contract with the Seasiders and instead joined Sheffield United for an undisclosed sum. Due to his age, McGahey was signed by the Blades for compensation, and he made 34 appearances for them.

McGahey suffered relegation to League Two with the Irons and appeared 63 times in total for them before moving on to Oldham Athletic in 2021. The versatile defender suffered relegation to the National League with the Latics but remained at Boundary Park until this summer.

McGahey told the official club website, “I’m very excited to have joined The New Saints FC as we look to create history over the 2024/25 season.”

“This club has a long history of success, and I hope to help it continue to do so both here at home and throughout Europe.”

“I am eager to get started since I can already tell how talented the squad is. A few important fixtures are approaching, so we need to be ready to ensure we achieve the desired outcome.

TNS has won three consecutive championships and is a 16-time Cymru Premier champion. They will learn who their opponents are when they play in the 2024–25 UEFA Champions League’s first qualifying round on Tuesday (June 18).
