Part of Football League World’s ‘Terrace Talk’ series, this piece offers our FLW Fan Pundits their personal thoughts on the newest breaking news, teams, players, managers, possible additions, and more.
After Tim Walter was fired, Hull City appears to be eager to find a new manager as soon as possible. Slavisa Jokanovic, the former manager of Fulham and Sheffield United, is the most recent candidate in the running.
Following talks with Acun Ilicali and the Tigers’ management earlier in the day following Tuesday night’s 2-0 home loss to Sheffield Wednesday, the Tigers eventually put an end to Walter’s brief and dismal reign by relieving him of his duties yesterday.
After two and a half seasons in the Bundesliga, the former Hamburger SV manager brought an intriguing reputation to East Yorkshire. 2 outfit, but eventually fell short of expectations and promises, leaving Hull in 22nd place with only three league victories total.
According to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook, Jokanovic is set to take Walter’s place at the MKM Stadium. Jokanovic, who left Dynamo Moscow in May 2023 and has been unemployed for more than a year, is reportedly the “leading contender” to replace the German.
Jokanovic, who had achieved promotion with Fulham and Watford, was unable to do so with the Blades. That being said, we sought the opinion of FLW’s Blades fan commentator Jimmy from the Blades Ramble YouTube channel after learning of Hull’s strong interest in hiring Jokanovic.
He remarked: “That surprises
It did not work for us, unfortunately. It does not make him a bad manager. He has clearly had success at this level before.
“Now, it is a little bit different; most teams, us included, are playing four and wide men again.
“I believe they must be considering Mark Robins as Tim Walter’s logical successor. To be honest, they will likely be regretting firing Liam Rosenior.
“However, do I believe Slav could perform a job? You see, he had a specific style of play in mind when he joined Sheffield United.
However, we were constructed as a three-five-two team at the time. For that system, all of the hiring had been completed. He wanted to play a four-at-the-back with wingers, but we didn’t have any full-backs or wingers.
“It didn’t work; it was just square pegs in round holes. When Slav attempted to play the way, the transition was too severe.
“If he goes into Hull, they have the players that suit his style of play. When you think about it, it’s not too much of a surprise that he has been linked.
“But, as I say, surely Mark Robins is right there for them.”
