Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Sheffield United will be well-placed for a takeover if their relegation to the Championship is confirmed.
The 66-year-old, who ran a football consultancy advising elite clubs after serving as CEO of Goodison Park from 2004 to 2009, stated relegation would give a potential owner ‘the chance to get a real asset at a good price’ in an interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
Sheffield United, which is presently owned by Prince Abdullah of Saudi Arabia, is predicted to finish the 2023–24 season in the second division.
With six games remaining in the season, the Blades are 10 points from safety and have lost their previous eight games.
Prince Abdullah has been searching for a “exit route” at Bramall Lane since the 2022–2023 season, according to finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke with Football Insider on Tuesday (16 April).
Sheffield United relegation could open door for new investment at Bramall Lane, says Wyness
According to Wyness, there is a strong possibility that the Yorkshire team will return to the Premier League for the 2025–2026 season.
He stated on the Insider Track podcast of Football Insider: “They ought to have a good chance of making a comeback.”
“They still need to work out new ownership, and they have parachute payments to come in.”Although they haven’t yet achieved success, I think they’re a useful asset at the championship level.
It’s a reach at Premier League level because they lack the security.
With their qualities and assets, purchasing them in the Championship has a good probability of succeeding.
“A prospective owner might be able to purchase a genuine asset for a reasonable price with it.”
A three-horse battle exists between Sheffield United and Rangers to sign the outstanding player.
