‘Unacceptable’ comment after Sheffield United win

Erik ten Hag conceded that, despite his team rallying from behind to win 4-2, Manchester United’s performance against Sheffield United was “unacceptable.” United fell behind 1-0 and then 2-1 in what turned out to be another convincing win, but they rallied to win the three points and maintain their chances of competing in Europe the next season.

Even though Ten Hag played a strong role in the build-up to the game, the outcome would not have relieved much of his strain. Subsequently, he emphasised the character of his team while also pointing out that they failed to maintain possession at crucial moments.

The visitors took the lead thanks to a ball from custodian Andre Onana to Jayden Bogle. The hosts were also guilty of letting their guard down in the second half, allowing Ben Brereton Diaz to make it 2-1. The ability to bounce back after falling behind twice was one of the many positives, he claimed.

“But also there were negatives. We gave it away and that can’t happen. It’s unacceptable, we have to learn from this. But I’m happy with the win and we need to move on.”

United defeated Coventry in a penalty shootout on Sunday to advance to meet Man City in the FA Cup final; however, their performance was heavily condemned for enabling the Championship team to rally from a 3-0 deficit in the last 20 minutes of regular time. After it happened, the 54-year-old ex-Ajax manager became irate and confronted reporters, calling the way the victory was handled “embarrassing.”

Captain Bruno Fernandes was the inspiration for their most recent breakout. Alejandro Garnacho’s cross found Harry Maguire for a header just before halftime, but the Portuguese midfielder took the game by the scruff of the neck when the Red Devils gave up again.
