Alan Nixon issues one-word response on whether Sheffield Wednesday owner ‘

Sheffield Wednesday were expected to go all out in the January transfer window as they sought to improve their prospects of remaining in the Championship this season.

The Owls have already signed James Beadle and Ike Ugbo, however only the former was named to the bench for yesterday’s defeat by Southampton.

Danny Rohl has stated that Ugbo would be being examined after dealing with a hamstring strain during his loan spell with Cardiff City, making it uncertain when he will be able to feature regularly for Sheffield Wednesday.

It is not ideal for The Owls, who require more of a goal scoring threat if they are to move up the league table.

Fans will be hoping that the Yorkshire club can still strengthen their attack in the second part of the January transfer window, and they will not have forgotten Dejphon Chansiri’s previous promise of a new striker.

It was reported in December that the Thai millionaire was ready to throw ‘huge money’ at a new forward this month, even offering up to £30,000 per week for the ‘perfect man’.

Bar loanee Jeff Hendrick, Sheffield Wednesday’s biggest earner is currently Barry Bannan, who earns roughly £25k per week at Hillsborough, making him the club’s sole player to earn more than £20k.

There has been silence on Chansiri’s pledge since, but Alan Nixon has now provided an update.

The journalist was asked on X whether Chansiri was still willing to pay £30k-per-week for a striker this month, and Nixon simply replied: “Yes.”

There has been very few murmurs of which striker Sheffield Wednesday could actually land for that kind of money, given how difficult it is to land forwards in January – especially when the entirety of the Championship seem to want one.

Who could Sheffield Wednesday sign this month?

Perhaps the most achievable target for The Owls is Scott Hogan, who has been linked with a move to Yorkshire in recent months.

The striker is said to be the joint-highest earner at Sheffield Wednesday (£20k-per-week), but his performances this season haven’t reflected his hefty wages.

The 31-year-old has managed only one goal in 18 appearances in the Championship this season, but finds himself falling down the pecking order behind Jay Stansfield.

Hogan did score 20 goals across the two seasons prior though, and clearly knows how to find the net in the second tier.

While not the most inspirational signing for Sheffield Wednesday, he would provide a much better option up top than the likes of Mallik Wilks and Ashley Fletcher.

Whether he is worth the wages The Owls would have to pay is another question, but it could be very difficult for Dejphon Chansiri to find someone of higher quality that would be willing to join this month.
