Blades boss in contention as Sheffield Wednesday decides..

He’s become the club’s most well-liked manager since Carlos Carvalhal and despite their achievements differing greatly, many will even say that Rohl trumps his Portuguese predecessor.

Replacing Xisco Munoz earlier in the season, Rohl has galvanised a previously misfiring team and given them a huge chance of Championship survival.

Even now, after four games without a win and a tired performance in the 2-0 defeat vs Middlesbrough on Monday, the Owls just need a win to break out of the bottom three.

But Sheffield Wednesday’s good form under Rohl hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Sunderland interested in Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl

Then, it was recently disclosed that Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship rivals, are considering Rohl ahead of the summer.

The Black Cats are expected to name a new manager in the summer, and Rohl is reportedly on their shortlist of candidates.

Naturally, everyone associated with Sheffield Wednesday, including Dejphon Chansiri, would be devastated by Rohl’s departure.

Furthermore, Rohl may move his backroom staff from Sheffield Wednesday to Sunderland, where the new manager will be free to bring in his own employees.

Latest on Danny Rohl future

In response to the Sunderland rumours from the previous week, Rohl stated:

Sincerely, I had stated a few weeks prior that I was concentrating all of my attention on the upcoming eight games. The hard part of the next game is what happens, so none of the rumours that are going around are relevant. They are rumours, and anyone can write or speak about them. My attention is on my team here at Sheffield Wednesday, and my purpose is to help this club reach its objectives.

It’s also reasonable to suppose that Rohl would think about his alternatives in the summer if Sheffield Wednesday are relegated, given his outburst during the Middlesbrough match.

could rescue Sheffield Wednesday

However, Paul Heckingbottom, a former Sheffield Wednesday player and manager of Sheffield United, can prove to be an unexpected hero for Chansiri.

Heckingbottom is at the top of Sunderland’s managerial wish list, as has also been disclosed since Rohl has been associated with the club.

Furthermore, should he receive an offer, the 46-year-old is predicted to be interested in accepting the position at the Stadium of Light this summer.

Additionally, there are rumours on social media that Sunderland may hire a new manager soon because of their poor league performance.

That might therefore mean that Sunderland shifts their focus from Rohl to a boss who is now unemployed, such as Heckingbottom.

And going into this final stretch, the Owls would feel lighter as a result.

However, nothing is definite, and it’s still likely that Rohl will leave Hillsborough in the summer.
