With no wins in their first ten Championship games, Sheffield Wednesday has had a difficult start to the year.
This season, they have only gained two points thus far thanks to draws against Middlesbrough and Leeds United.Due to this dismal start, manager Xisco Munoz has come under a lot of pressure recently, and it seems like his time is over.
Wednesday announced on their club website that Munoz had been fired after their 1-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday.
Additionally confirmed by the club are the immediate departures from the club of backroom staff Miguel Munoz, Miguel Gomila, Roberto Cuesta Roman, and Antonello Brambilla.
Neil Thompson, the manager of the Owls’ under-21 team, will be in charge of the team’s upcoming match against Huddersfield Town at home on Saturday.
Munoz was reportedly about to be fired earlier this week, according to reports.
Munoz joined the team in the summer after the Owls were promoted to the Championship after defeating Yorkshire rivals Barnsley in the League One play-off final.
On that particular day, Darren Moore was in charge, but after negotiations to extend his contract stalled in June, owner Dejphon Chansiri removed him of his responsibilities.
Munoz then assumed control at the beginning of July, although despite being promoted from the Championship to the Premier League in the 20/21 season, the majority of fans did not support him due to a poor managerial track record.
Is it wise to fire Xisco Munoz?
The club has experienced some difficult times recently, but this news will undoubtedly make Sheffield Wednesday supporters happy.
Munoz’s performance on Wednesday was among the worst in Championship history, and it never seemed to be getting better. His team’s attack is the lowest, scoring just five goals in ten games.
They had considered hiring Lyle Taylor, but his dismissal may have made that decision questionable.
A replacement will need to be found, although it is difficult to imagine anyone wishing to join the club.
Particularly in light of the owner’s extensive Friday morning statement, in which he declared he would no longer be investing any more of his personal money in the team.
