Danny Rohl drops “big” Dejphon Chanisiri transfer claim

The Owls are now building under the German after they looked destined to make an immediate return to League One after a disastrous start to last season under Xisco Munoz but they achieved safety after a remarkable turnaround under Röhl.

Röhl earned plenty of plaudits for his work as manager at Hillsborough, with his arrival coinciding with a remarkable resurgence in form. Wednesday had just three points to their name when Röhl replaced Munoz at Hillsborough back in October, but the young head coach inspired his side to safety in the final weeks of the season.

Having been inside the bottom three for nigh-on the entire campaign, an impressive six-game unbeaten run, including three consecutive victories during their final three fixtures, saw Wednesday secure survival as they finished 20th in the table, with Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town joining Rotherham United in League One.

The Owls were one of the form sides in the division for the second half of the campaign, with Röhl winning 16 of his 38 games in charge, drawing six and losing 16, which is an incredible record considering the situation he inherited at the club.

Naturally, the second tier has taken note of Röhl’s outstanding job in South Yorkshire, and once the 2023–24 season concluded, interest in the German grew. They did, however, gain a significant boost when Röhl committed to a new, long-term deal with the team.

The German is currently rebuilding his team and hoping to be looking up the table rather than below it in 2025, which spurred a busy summer. But the proper support will be needed if they want to challenge in the top half of the Championship table the following season.

Before the season ended, the German publicly stated that he may leave Sheffield Wednesday if the team couldn’t fulfill his aspirations, but he quickly put speculation to rest.

Joe Crann of The Sheffield Star has revealed Röhl’s thoughts on the window so far. Speaking to the journalist via X/Twitter, he said: “A big thing is to have nearly done the squad.

“It’s so important that everyone is here, and we have pre-season together.

“That was a topic in the summer when I met the chairman, and I think he’s done a good job now.

“This togetherness, at the moment, is very strong.”

According to a tip from Alan Nixon via his Patreon account, Chansiri was reportedly receptive to further investment into the club, which makes for an exciting and busy summer. The Thai businessman reportedly wants to bring in additional investors on Wednesday during the summer transfer window.

It is acknowledged, meanwhile, that he is rejecting offers to fully take over the team. The businessman is eager to increase revenue but is averse about ceding complete control of the South Yorkshire company.

In addition to making the team younger, James Beadle, Ben Hamer, Max Lowe, Yan Valery, Nathaniel Chalobah, Svante Ingelsson, Olaf Kobacki, Charlie McNeill, and Jamal Lowe have all contributed to strengthening their ranks this summer.
