Danny Rohl explains why : ‘It was my decision’:

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has explained why Lee Gregory was absent once again at Birmingham yesterday.

The striker was once again omitted from the matchday squad, with Rohl preferring other options.

Wednesday slipped to another defeat as Birmingham ran out 2-1 winners in the West Midlands.

Gregory wasn’t in the Wednesday squad for the Millwall game prior to the international break and it seems a strange situation.

Rohl explains Gregory decision

The German must be wondering if this management lark is all it’s cracked up to be.

He’s overseen just one win and next up for Wednesday is a game against league-leaders Leicester City.

Gregory must be wondering when his next Wednesday opportunity will be coming and Rohl discussed his omission after the game.

He told Yorkshire Live: “It was my decision. It’s nothing against Lee. I chose Bailey (Cadamarteri) instead.”

The experienced striker has managed just a single goal this season and that came on the opening day.

However, Gregory has scored goals at this level in the past and he must be deeply upset that he’s been left out of two squads.

Gregory could now be on borrowed time at Wednesday

At 35-years-old, the striker won’t want to be kicking his heels in the stands at Hillsborough all season.

With the January transfer window just around the corner, he must be wondering whether his time is up.

Wednesday boss Rohl seemingly wants to give Cadamarteri more chances in the squad and that’s not good news for Gregory.

It seems as though the boss isn’t overly keen on Gregory as he looks to shape his Wednesday squad and time could be up for the experienced player.

Gregory will want to play football, with or without Wednesday. He probably deserves a little bit more respect than he’s currently getting but ultimately the decision is on Rohl.

With a tough run of fixtures now to come, Gregory will be hoping that he can work his way back into the fold.
