Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has confirmed the club will not be signing free agent Nico Schulz.
Sheffield Wednesday have taken a look at the left-back on trial recently.
Schulz, 30, has been available since cutting ties with Borussia Dortmund last summer and will have to continue to weigh up his options.
Rohl has provided this update on his situation, as per a report by The Star: “I’m very happy with my team here, I know Kristian Pedersen will come back soon, and that’s the reason why I will stay with my squad… Nico Schulz will not be coming.”
Schulz has nearly gone a whole season without playing so it would have been a risk for Sheffield Wednesday to sign him and throw him straight into a Championship relegation battle.
The Owls are in great form at the moment as they look to avoid relegation back to League One. They beat Plymouth Argyle 1-0 at home last night to keep their momentum going.
Schulz would have given them more cover and competition to their defensive department. However, as Rohl alluded to, Kristian Pedersen will returning ‘soon’ which means they will be stocked up in that area again.
The former Germany international, who made 12 caps earlier in his career, spent four years at Dortmund and made 61 appearances for the Bundesliga giants in all competitions.
He also played for the likes of Hertha Berlin, Borussia Monchengladbach and Hoffenheim and has never played outside of his native country.
Sheffield Wednesday are back in action this Friday with a home clash against Leeds United. The Owls have won their last four games on the spin and will be in confident mood.
