Sheffield Wednesday face Plymouth tonight and Danny Rohl has to consider unleashing Reece James from the off. The Owls are going in search of their first win in the Championship this season.
James has been a peripheral figure this season. He played just eight minutes in the league under Xisco Munoz and wasn’t even in the squad for seven games under his stewardship.
That does seem somewhat strange. James was an important part of Darren Moore’s team that won promotion via the League One play-offs last season and his omission does seem a little odd.
Rohl should unleash James tonight
Some Wednesday fans might point out that James is hardly a world-beater. However, in Wednesday’s current situation, it’s very important that square pegs in round holes aren’t evident across the pitch.
James would bring some much-needed balance to the team and his work rate could prove very important. Steven Schumacher has got his team playing well at home and it will be a difficult game this evening.
One thing that Wednesday will have to do is match the hosts in terms of their energy levels. James is renowned for being a little terrier up and down the left-hand side and it would appear he’s now fully fit and good to go.
James has point to prove at Sheffield Wednesday
The 29-year-old won’t be happy with how this season has transpired. He scored the third goal in the famous 4-0 win over Peterborough in the play-offs and he’d have relished a crack at the Championship.
Last season, the player earned some praise from Moore for his efforts. He was called ‘superb’ following a 3-1 win over Wycombe and he was a regular in his team.
Rohl will have to search for a winning formula now he’s taken over from Xisco Munoz. Tonight, he will hope to get that first win ticked off and by unleashing James he might give himself a very good chance.
