Danny Rohl provides further injury update on ‘fantastic’ Sheffield Wednesday ace’

Sheffield Wednesday have been without Iorfa for the past two games after the defender suffered a calf injury in the first few minutes of their victory over Blackburn Rovers earlier this month.

Rohl first stated that things were not looking good for the 28-year-old, who has previously suffered from injury difficulties, and now the Wednesday manager has issued an update on Iorfa ahead of tomorrow’s Championship meeting against QPR.

Danny Rohl says Dominic Iorfa faces ‘difficult’ spell out

Under Rohl, Iorfa was firmly entrenched in the starting XI.

He’d played every minute of every game until his injury against Blackburn, and he’d been out since.

In Iorfa’s absence, Liam Palmer has come in at right-back and seems ready to compete with Pol Valentin for the starting job.

And, before of tomorrow’s crucial match against QPR at Hillsborough, Rohl provided the following update on Iorfa:

“It appears that Dom is having difficulty. We will do everything we can to help him, but it will take time. He was playing fantastically, but when things like this happen, he comes back stronger. Acceptance and solution-finding are required.”

A huge blow for Sheffield Wednesday and Iorfa

Iorfa has been a long-term member of this Sheffield Wednesday squad, having joined in the 2018/19 season.

Since then, he’s made 152 appearances for the Owls, with some seasons presenting Iorfa with injury concerns and others not.

It seems like he may have had one of his more involved seasons this time around, and that he could have really prevailed under Rohl, who is clearly an admirer of his.

But this new injury appears to be a long-term setback for Iorfa, which is upsetting for both him and the team.

Palmer is an experienced replacement option, but he may not give the same coverage as Iorfa, and Valentin may be a different type of right-back altogether.

It’s a challenge for Rohl to overcome, and if neither Palmer nor Valentin can convince the German in the coming weeks, a new right-back could become a January priority for the Owls.

The Owls face fellow strugglers QPR tomorrow in what should be an entertaining encounter in South Yorkshire, with everything on the line.

The game begins at 3pm, and a win for the Owls could move them within five points of safety.
