Danny Rohl’s Deadline Day transfer plan becomes clear as Sheffield Wednesday bids for two additions

The Owls got most of their business done early doors and have now made eleven new signings, as well as tying Dominic Iorfa, Di’Shon Bernard, Liam Palmer, Barry Bannan and Josh Windass down to new contracts.

Sheffield Wednesday filled a key void when they snapped up Shea Charles on loan this week, but they aren’t done quite yet.

With a number of departures still expected, Wednesday are likely to make another couple of signings before they can clock off tomorrow night.

Rohl wants to sign another attacker and a left-footed ball-playing defender. However, the report does claim it ‘wouldn’t be a monumental shock’ of no further business happened.

While there are no specific names mentioned, it is reported that Wednesday will focus on the Premier League loan market as they look to bring in players to make an impact, rather than adding depth.

Rohl has already suggested that bringing in permanent players of that calibre is too pricey, so they will instead look to the top flight for temporary arrivals.

The Yorkshire outfit already tried to sign Brighton’s Mark O’Mahony, but he has since joined Portsmouth.

While the club are eager to sign a centre-back, they have so far not really been linked with any names in that position.

The Owls need to target Di’Shon Bernard partner

Wednesday should be putting a lot of effort into signing a new centre-back, with Bernard really the only player who seems reliable week in week out.

Iorfa has been tipped to be dropped this weekend, while Rohl’s other options arguably aren’t quite at the level required. However, an impressive Carabao Cup display from Liam Palmer could earn him a place back in the team.

A striker is surely more likely to depend on Michael Smith’s future, however the team would probably benefit from another back-up option ahead of Charlie McNeill, while the youngster could maybe do with a loan exit.

It will be an interesting final couple of days for Wednesday, but there is no doubt they will face significant competition, with a large chunk of the EFL looking to higher divisions to round off their transfer window.
