Ex-£4m man let go by Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday made the decision to release midfielder Dennis Adeniran at the end of his contract last summer.

In the summer of 2021, Adeniran was brought in by Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer, with a two-year contract.

After his contract with Everton, who paid £4 million to sign him from Fulham as a teenager in 2017, expired, he moved to Hillsborough.
The London-born midfielder made 51 appearances during his two seasons with Sheffield Wednesday, tallying seven goals and three assists. Adeniran had moments of brilliance in the side, and his energy made him a useful player in the midfield at times, but he also had periods of consistency issues and injuries.

His release upon being promoted to the Championship was therefore somewhat anticipated.

How has Adeniran fared since?

After leaving on Wednesday, Adeniran found a new club quickly, and he also made a wise choice.

Superb The midfield player was recruited by Portimonense of Portugal in July on a free transfer, although his tenure there was difficult and brief. The former young player for Fulham and Everton was unable to make an impact on the club and only saw five minutes of action before leaving for the winter.
After Sheffield Wednesday in January, Adeniran joined Hapoel Petah Tikva, his second club.

The 25-year-old has since made eight appearances for his new team, scoring one goal each time. They were the lowest-placed team in the Israeli premier league throughout the regular season and have so far failed to turn things around in the relegation play-off stage.

Adeniran and Petah Tikva signed a contract that is initially valid through the end of the current campaign, with a two-year option.

The former Sheffield Wednesday player will search for a new team once more if nothing triggers him. It will be interesting to see what this summer holds for him as a midfielder with a lot of potential and something to offer in the middle of the park.
