‘Excellent’ 24 y/o wanted by Danny Rohl now set to become free agent in summer

Poveda was brought to Sheffield Wednesday on loan from Leeds United in January, and the Colombian international has since won over the Owls supporters.

Rob Staton, a BBC reporter, called Poveda “excellent.” Poveda has made seven appearances for Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship while also contributing one assist.

Fans have been enthralled by his inventiveness and cunning, which has greatly contributed to Hillsborough’s recent improvement in performance.

Furthermore, a lot of people would prefer for Poveda to remain in S6 permanently as his contract at Elland Road expires in the summer.

Ian Poveda has played his last game for Leeds United

The 24-year-old Poveda joined Leeds United for the 2019–20 campaign, but he hasn’t left an impression.

He has played in 25 league games for the team, seven of which have come in the first half of the current Championship season.

However, Poveda is now far down the hierarchy, and it appears Leeds has decided not to extend Poveda’s contract before the summer, as they aim to promote him.
Poveda will become a free agent in the summer after playing his final game for Leeds United, according to Football Insider.

According to earlier reports, Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl was eager to sign Poveda to a long-term contract this summer.

A major boost for Sheffield Wednesday, but one condition remains

Poveda has undoubtedly demonstrated his class at Sheffield Wednesday, and it appears that with Rohl’s coaching, Poveda is finally thriving after a few inconsistent years during which he had some difficult loan stints elsewhere.

Therefore, it would make sense if Poveda wanted to stay in Hillsborough and continue playing for Rohl.

However, it appears that Rohl’s future with the team and Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship standing are the two variables at play here.

Despite their recent improvement, Sheffield Wednesday is still in the bottom three, one point above safety.

There may be a lot of changes at the team this summer, which could discourage Poveda from signing a long-term contract. There are also whispers that the Championship is interested in Rohl.

However, Rohl is almost certain to stay if the Owls continue, which might mean Poveda joins in what would be a very beneficial domino effect.

When he isn’t playing, as the Owls did against Leeds the other night, the team just misses that little bit of bite in the closing third. He definitely brings a little spark and enthusiasm to the starting lineup.

A transfer for Poveda would undoubtedly face some challenges, though, considering that other teams are likely to be interested in him given his impressive performance for Sheffield Wednesday as things stand
