Sheffield Wednesday came out 2-0 winners as they travelled to Loftus Road at the weekend – their first victory in a month.
It didn’t appear like the Owls would have much luck travelling south, as Ian Poveda was benched after just 30 minutes.
But Djeidi Gassama, who took his place, went on to play a fantastic game, scoring a goal and providing an assist, while Anthony Musaba, another substitute, scored the second.
After joining Wednesday in the summer, the pair has experienced “ups and downs” this season. However, they both had excellent performances against QPR and have received praise for doing something different from what they typically do.
Musaba and Gassama are really ‘big players
“I think the manager showed real honesty in the meeting after the Middlesbrough game, especially for those two players [Musaba and Gassama], that they are big players for us, that they are players that can come on and affect games and get us up the pitch,” captain Liam Palmer said in an interview with the Owls Heaven podcast.
I believe that when they don’t have the ball, they can work more harder, like they demonstrated today. That’s what you get for playing defence. I’m glad for them, and I hope it gives them more self-assurance for the final five games.
But can they keep it up?
In terms of successful dribbles and shots taken, Sheffield Wednesday’s Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama are in the top two and five, respectively.
They have occasionally demonstrated that they are a serious attacking threat to the Owls.
But as they become used to life in the Championship, they’ll need to be more effective off the ball, which might take some time.
But during the weekend, they undoubtedly appeared much more proficient in every aspect of the game, and it was a major factor in the club winning all three points.
The two might be major contributors in the final five games if they can continue to play as well as they did on Saturday.
