Hamer was the first signing through the door at Hillsborough this summer, kickstarting what has been a very busy few weeks at Hillsborough as Danny Röhl puts together a squad that he’s hoping can kick on in the Championship in 2024/25.
The goalkeeper was brought in at a point when Pierce Charles was the only contracted shot-stopper on the books, however it was always hoped that they would manage to bring James Beadle back after his successful loan last time out – that came to pass earlier this month, and Jack Hall also signed a new deal at the club.
Hamer went on to play 45 minutes in the 2-0 win over Alfreton Town in their first preseason friendly of the summer, while Charles got the other 45, and he will have been hoping to feature in their other official fixtures prior to the opening game against Plymouth Argyle, against RB Salzburg, Werder Bremen and Leganes.
Whether that will happen now, however, is up in the air after it is believed that he picked up an injury during the Owls’ preparations for the season ahead, though he’ll be itching to get back available again as soon as possible. It is unknown whether he will travel this weekend when they head out for their second preseason camp of the summer.
Röhl and his technical team currently have Beadle and Hall to work with considering that Charles is currently away with Northern Ireland’s U19s at the European Championship, and they also recently confirmed that teenager, Jack Phillips, had signed his first professional contract at the club.
