Owls training guest’ in court today on ‘aggravated assault’ charge*

According to numerous sources in Germany, Sheffield Wednesday’s “training guest,” Nico Schulz, is scheduled to appear in court today to answer to allegations related to violence.
Earlier this month, the SID Sports Agency verified that the allegations against former Borussia Dortmund left-back Schulz, initiated by the public prosecutor’s office, had been accepted by Dortmund Local Court. According to reports, Judge Michael Tebbe stated that the proceedings, which are scheduled to start today, February 28, are “about suspicion of grievous bodily harm.” In the past, Schulz has refuted accusations of illegal activity.

An accusation of domestic abuse was made against Schulz in August 2022 by his ex-girlfriend. Additionally, the public prosecutor’s office in Dortmund has accused him with aggravated assault dating back to 2020, according to German news agency SID.

Last week, it was made known that Schulz was training at Middlewood Road with the Owls as a free agent following the announcement that his contract with Dortmund had been terminated one year early, in July 2023. The last time a player played professional football was in May 2022, after signing for an alleged cost of £21 million. Because the player is a free agent, Wednesday may theoretically sign him outside of the transfer window, but it’s unclear if that will actually happen.

In response to a question regarding Wednesday’s plans with Schulz following Saturday’s crucial 2-1 victory against Bristol City, Owls manager Danny Röhl told The Star, “Nico trained well.” He did not go further. We’ll wait and see what occurs the next week before I return and provide you with the details.”

He stated: “He is in training with us, he’s a training guest” during the news conference for Schulz’s training session on Wednesday of last week. It’s only training right now, but who knows? For me, having my team train well was more essential than anything else; he was just a member of the group.

“Talking about a player’s personal matters is pointless when he’s not actually signed with Sheffield Wednesday. He’s training and that’s the situation at the moment.”
