The Owls are sitting at the bottom of the Championship and have yet to win a single game this season with their latest game resulting in a 3-0 loss down at Plymouth
Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Röhl has provided a further update on his search for more coaching additions. Last week saw the Owls add Henrik Pedersen, Chris Powell and Sascha Lense join the new-look coaching set-up at Hillsborough.
But the Owls’ head coach was clear he wanted further reinforcements in his staff. The absence of a goalkeeping coach means Nicky Weaver has stepped up in recent days. The ex-Wednesday player is academy goalkeeping coach but was putting the senior stoppers through their paces at both Watford and Plymouth. The expectation is that he will return to his primary role once a new arrival is in place.
Additionally, a set-piece coach was lined up by Röhl. Nico Knaubel was believed to be ready to move to S6 in this role. Indeed, he was present down at Vicarage Road last weekend but work permit issues mean a new man will be needed for that particular void.
Speaking to the media after the 3-0 loss at Argyle, the German said: “With the set piece coach we have to find a new solution – but I have also some in my mind. We will do this in the next two days.”
When asked by Yorkshire Live about the goalkeeping coach situation, he added: “It’s also in our minds to do this. With regards the new goalkeeping coach we are also in this process. I’ve put some guys already in for my new staff and now we have to look and see what we can do.”
It is entirely possible that one of or both new recruits could be in situ for Sunday’s huge South Yorkshire derby at home to fellow strugglers Rotherham United. Wednesday go into it on the back of a shocking run of form. They are rock-bottom and have yet to win any of their 13 league games and have not scored in any of their last six matches.
