Sheffield Wednesday head coach gives update on loanee and three other players

When it comes to whether winger Ian Poveda will play again in the crucial final weeks of the Owls’ Great Escape from Championship relegation, head coach Danny Rohl of SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY is still reticent.

Poveda, who arrived at Hillsborough on loan from United Leeds at the close of the winter transfer season, had tantalising flashes of match-winning ability until injuries clouded the picture.

He sustained a muscular injury in the team’s crushing loss to Ipswich last month. He returned to the pitch on Easter Monday in the team’s loss to Middlesbrough, but he only played 29 minutes in the team’s victory over QPR the following weekend, raising concerns that the ailment might be more serious.

In a six-pointer for relegation on Saturday, Rohl’s team hosts Stoke City. He stated, “I think with Ian, you have to look a little bit to the last (previous) four weeks.”

“He suffered a muscle injury, recovered, and then experienced another setback due to the same issue. It’s always challenging, which makes it extremely challenging to determine whether he can play one more game or not. It’s a major injury right now. However, you never know—sometimes things moves more quickly. However, our current priority is to ensure his prompt and healthy return. I’m not sure when the time will be, though.

Di’Shon Bernard, who has missed the team’s previous four games, Ike Ugbo, who missed the weekend’s tie with Norwich City, and Marvin Johnson, who missed the most recent games against QPR and Norwich, are all still being evaluated, although it is believed that their injuries are not as serious as Poveda’s.

When asked if the issues were not as severe as Poveda’s, Rohl replied, “I think so, but I have to look at the training tomorrow (Friday).” We had three distinct groups today and focused more on individual healing; tomorrow, we’ll see who is truly accessible.

However, it appears more appealing. A few players return, but to what extent and with whom? Let’s take a closer look at this. It helps us get closer to the game every 24 hours.

“That’s why I can’t announce who it is; it’s more important to see who is ready and fresh tomorrow. After that, we can conduct additional tests to determine their strength and whether or not they can return. I’ll consider the input before making a choice.”
