Sheffield Wednesday join race for in-demand Scot, teammate also on the radar

Sheffield Wednesday are in for a busy summer transfer window and have already been able to strike some business since the opening day last Friday.

Experienced goalkeeper Ben Hamer will join from Watford when his deal expires, while left-sided defender Max Lowe makes the rare cross-city move from Sheffield United to join Danny Rohl and co.

Other targets are on the radar though, and it seems it’s not only first-team signings wanted.

As per a report from the Daily Record, Sheffield Wednesday are eyeing starlets Aiden McGinlay and Max Willoughby, who are both on the books at Scottish Premiership side Queen’s Park.

McGinlay has been linked with Championship clubs West Brom, Stoke City and more amid his impressive form north of the border and he’s now on the Owls’ radar as well.

As for Willoughby, he is been invited to Hillsborough for a trial by Wednesday. The talented defender will be able to move on a free transfer with League One pair Reading and Blackpool also interested.

Double swoop eyed

There are other teams interested in McGinlay and Willoughby, so Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping to close a deal. A team of their caliber has previously drawn some of the best players, and in spite of the competition, this may put them in a strong position to complete a double swoop for the Queen’s Park possibilities.

The fact that McGinlay is interested in the Championship could complicate matters.

But with defender Willoughby already on trial and teams from League One vying for his services, it’s possible that Wednesday can pull it off.

With Danny Rohl as their head coach, Wednesday has provided numerous youngsters with first-team opportunities over the years, which may make them a desirable option. He has experience working with some outstanding young players, and he didn’t hesitate to give Bailey Cadamarteri an opportunity, which might help the Owls in their pursuit of

Sheffield Wednesday has made quick movements in the transfer market, as previously mentioned.

Along with Yan Valery, it appears that an agreement has been reached for both Hamer and Lowe.While Rohl and colleagues will undoubtedly be busy pursuing other possible acquisitions, it makes for interesting reading when some wise business is completed ahead of schedule.

Sheffield Wednesday might have a successful window if they can maintain this pace moving forward, with additional acquisitions to the first team in important areas and possible moves for youngsters like McGinlay and Willoughby.
