Exclusive: Sheffield Wednesday defender Ciaran Brennan has endured a frustrating time of it lately and has yet to feature this season in a single matchday squad this season
Yorkshire Live knows that Ciaran Brennan, the forgotten man of Sheffield Wednesday, is open to moving elsewhere and will think about his future in the new year. The 23-year-old defender was left off of the squad list that was sent in to the EFL last month and has not played a minute of the season.
Under former manager Xisco Munoz, he participated in the first two preseason friendly and was part of the touring party that travelled to Spain for a week-long training camp. However, he sustained an injury that was not clearly diagnosed and was sidelined.
Ever since, he has slipped in the hierarchy and has only sometimes played for the club’s Under-21 squad. He made an appearance in their tie with Sheffield United earlier this month, and on Tuesday afternoon, when they go to Coventry, he might make another appearance.

There is still one slot available in the senior squad, and it is anticipated that Marvin Johnson or Momo Diaby would be chosen by new manager Danny Röhl to occupy it.
In the meanwhile, Brennan might go on loan, but only to a National League team. Although he would receive much-needed senior game experience with such a move, it is understood he would rather wait until the transfer window reopens in the New Year. This would allow him flexibility to relocate inside the EFL or outside the league if the right opportunity presents itself.
Although Brennan has played for the Owls eighteen times, his most recent game was in March 2022, which was 19 months ago. Prior to his shoulder injury ending his stay in Wiltshire, he made 21 appearances while on loan at Swindon last season. Although his contract only runs until the summer of next year, he disclosed to Yorkshire Live back in June that the club has an option in his contract that allows them to extend terms if they see suitable.
