Sheffield Wednesday stance on Ike Ugbo as Sunderland edge into race

Despite an incredibly bright and optimistic summer of bringing in necessary talent and depth, whilst also tying down the future of key players in and around the squad, the uncertainty involving Ike Ugbo’s future has taken centre stage.

After Ugbo’s dominant loan stay in the second half of the 2023–24 Championship season, where he scored seven league goals to keep Sheffield Wednesday afloat, Danny Rohl has always been a fan of the Canadian striker.

Ugbo is an intriguing potential for any Championship team, having previously played in the league with Cardiff City and enjoying an incredible season with Troyes in Ligue 1.

Sunderland, a Championship team, has pounced to sign the attacker because the arrangement to get the Canadian back has been taking a long time. Sheffield Wednesday is still confident about the transaction, though.

Sheffield Wednesday still ‘have confidence’ in Ike Ugbo transfer pursuit

Sheffield Wednesday is still confident, even after Sunderland showed tangible interest and were perceived as being “closer” in terms of offering Ugbo a more alluring payment package. Sheffield Wednesday also reportedly agreed to a cost of around £2.5 million.

According to Alex Miller on X, there is still “confidence it will happen,” therefore Sheffield Wednesday’s dreams of pursuing a deal for the Canadian international are far from over.

But with “other club interest there,” Sheffield Wednesday is obviously up against the clock to close a deal for the Troyes striker.
